This Code expresses the fundamental values of the United Way of Christian County. It guides the conduct of all employees and representatives of the United Way of Christian County to conduct all responsibilities in an ethical manner.

Personal integrity in employees benefits the organization by demonstrating:
*respect, truth and accurate representation
*fairness and objectivity in all activities
*set an example of professional standards
*honor the privacy of donors and beneficiaries
*create public confidence in this United Way

As an employer, the United Way of Christian County Board of Directors:
*encourages honest communication between the Board and staff
*evaluates employees on a fair and consistent basis
*shows respect for employees
*solicits and respects the opinions of employees

The employees of the United Way of Christian County:
*strive to meet highest standards of performance
*refuse to engage in or tolerate any fraud, misuse, abuse or waste of United Way resources
*exhibit respect for Directors and all those they come into contact with
*comply with all legal requirements concerning substance abuse
*comply with all other laws and regulations affecting the United Way and their personal obligations

The United Way of Christian County has an obligation to its supporters and donors to uphold this trust by:
*making a full and accurate accounting of all information to donors, who have a right to know how their *donations are being used
*spending donors’ contribution wisely, efficiently and objectively
*being good stewards of contributions that are used to pay operating expenses, salaries and not use *funds that do not directly advance the United Way mission

To assist those who serve the United Way of Christian County on the Board of Directors, managers and staff:
*support volunteers so they can perform to the highest level of their contribution and personal *satisfaction
*treat all volunteers with fairness and respect
*involve volunteers at appropriate levels and phases of the decision making process
*set clear standards of performance for volunteers and recognize their contributions

Volunteers also represent the United Way of Christian county and set examples through their ethical *conduct and professionalism. Volunteers:
*review the Code of Ethics of the United Way of Christian County and follow the spirit of the code when *making policy or managing the affairs of the organization
*do not knowingly take any action or make any statement intended to confer any financial benefit on the *volunteer or members of their family. In the event that a matter comes before the Board of Directors that *raises a potential conflict of interest for any member of the Board, the member shall disclose the *potential conflict of interest as soon as he/she becomes aware of it, and shall withdraw from the meeting *room during discussion, review and voting. The disclosure shall be recorded in the meeting minutes.

Venders are treated fairly to avoid appearance of impropriety. The United Way of Christian County:
allows all vendors the opportunity to offer their products or services on a competitive basis
purchases all products and services under ethical procedures

The United Way of Christian County is an equal opportunity employer and:
*respects all workers and other individuals without regard to race, color, religion, creed, age, sex, national origin or ancestry, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, or status as a qualified disabled or handicapped individual
*refuse to engage in or tolerate in others any form of sexual harassment

To avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest which could harm the image of the organization and undermine the public’s trust in the United Way of Christian County employees:
*will avoid any activity or outside interest which conflicts or appears to conflict with the best interest of the organization
*will not participate in or influence any decision of the organization that could result in a direct benefit to the employee of their family

No employee should accept any gratuity or favor for doing his or her job, and will not:
*solicit or accept gratuities, gifts or favors, other than promotional gifts or nominal value
*accept food, transportation, lodging, or entertainment unless directly related to United Way business
*use United Way resources for personal gain
*allow outside activities or outside employment to interfere with their responsibilities within the organization

The United Way of Christian County Board of Director Members, and staff will:
*ensure that all information which is confidential or privileged or which is not publicly available is not *disclosed inappropriately
*ensure that all non-public information acquired by United Way of other persons or firms will not be disclosed by United Way representatives
